Chepmell of the 2nd Tasmanian Imperial Bushmen and addressed to Hobart, franked with a  pair of ½d Green Cape of Good Hope stamps, tied by Dordrecht De 23 01 Squared Circle Cancellation, with Hobart JA 21 1902 backstamp. Endorsed 1901 Boer War cover sent by a Sergeant H. Chepmell of the 2nd Tasmanian Imperial Bushmen and addressed to Hobart, franked with a pair of ½d Green Cape of Good Hope stamps, tied by Dordrecht De 23 01 Squared Circle Cancellation, with Hobart JA 21 1902 backstamp. 1902 Unfranked Cover from Dunedin Training Camp, with 1902 Unfranked Cover from Dunedin Training Camp, with "E.(Coat of Arms)R./New Zealand Ninth Contingent/Forbury Camp, Dunedin" and "MILITARY POST OFFICE, FORBURY, N.Z./FREE" handstamp (known used February 8th-March 12th 1902), cancelled Dunedin 13 MR 02 with Christchurch backstamp. Some toning blemishes, but still a fine cover mailed prior to embarkation. The Ninth Contingent was made up of men who had not been accepted into the Eighth and was also divided into two regiments, the South Island Regiment sailed from Port Chalmers aboard the SS Kent, while the North Island Regiment sailed from Auckland on the SS Devon. One of its members, Lt. Robert McKeich, was the last New Zealander to be killed in combat after being shot during a confrontation with three Boers four days after the official surrender.
